LEGO & Gender Part 1: Lego Friends (by feministfrequency)

Very good take on the whole thing. 4 years and $40 million…

2 years and $20 million would have been better.

Pretty good, except I don’t like the fact that she essentially blames Lego for the sexual dimorphism that exists in children’s toys and interests. That’s an issue with vast, deep, and old causes. The worst thing that can be said about Lego here is that they are propagating stereotypes. But that can be said about virtually everyone and everything today, including feminists.

People have been way-the-fuck overreacting about this over at Matt’s Brick Blog, where Matt and his followers have been talking about this new line of sets for two months now. Thankfully Matt is still posting Lego dicks and tattoo guns in between. In spite of all this, it’s still one of my favorite Tumblrs.
